Surge ProtectionSystem
SPD Design, Supply & Installation
Overview
Transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes, switching operations, and other electrical disturbances pose a serious threat to sensitive electronic equipment and electrical infrastructure. A properly designed and installed Surge Protection System is essential to mitigate these risks.
Aadithya offers end-to-end surge protection solutions — from risk assessment and system design to supply, installation, and commissioning of SPDs across power, data, signal, and instrumentation lines.
Understanding Transient Overvoltages
A transient overvoltage (surge) is a short-duration spike in electrical voltage that can reach thousands of volts above normal operating levels. Sources include direct or nearby lightning strikes, utility grid switching, motor start/stop events, and capacitor bank switching. These surges can destroy equipment instantly or degrade it over time, causing unplanned downtime and costly replacements.
Our Offerings
Type 1 SPD
Primary protection at main distribution boards; handles direct lightning current (10/350µs waveform). Required when a lightning protection system is installed.
Type 2 SPD
Secondary protection at sub-distribution boards; limits residual surges (8/20µs waveform). Standard protection for all installations.
Type 3 SPD
Point-of-use protection at sensitive equipment terminals; fine protection for electronics and instrumentation.
Signal & Data SPD
Protection for data lines, Ethernet, RS-485, instrumentation, and telecom lines.
