Overview

Advanced Engineering Solutions

Lightning is an act of God that risks life and assets. There is no method to prevent lightning strikes. A prudent approach is to measure and manage lightning risk for adequate protection.

IEC 62305 emphasizes the need to protect structures and people from direct lightning, and also protect electrical and electronic equipment from conducted surges (via SPDs) and radiated surges (via Faraday cage-type LPS). Aadithya offers comprehensive lightning protection systems — from risk assessment to design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning.

Understanding Transients

FUNDAMENTALCONCEPT

A transient overvoltage (surge) is a short-duration spike in electrical voltage that can reach thousands of volts above normal operating levels. Sources include direct or nearby lightning strikes, utility grid switching, motor start/stop events, and capacitor bank switching. These surges can destroy equipment instantly or degrade it over time, causing unplanned downtime and costly replacements.

Our Offerings

ESE Lightning Protection

Advanced Early Streamer Emission (ESE) active air terminals designed to proactively intercept lightning strikes earlier than conventional rods, offering a significantly larger radius of protection for expansive facilities.

CLPS Products

Conventional Lightning Protection Systems comprising Franklin rods, down conductors, and earth termination networks that form a Faraday cage to safely capture and route lightning currents to the ground.

Surge Protection Devices (SPDs)

High-performance transient voltage surge suppressors essential for clamping overvoltages and diverting dangerous surge currents away from critical power panels and sensitive communication lines.

Risk Assessment Tool

A comprehensive, software-driven quantitative lightning risk analysis conducted strictly in accordance with IS/IEC 62305-2 to evaluate vulnerability and determine the exact class of protection required.

Type 1 SPD

Installed at the main distribution board, Type 1 SPDs safely discharge high-energy, direct lightning currents (10/350µs waveform). They are a mandatory requirement for facilities equipped with an external lightning protection system.

Type 2 SPD

Deployed at sub-distribution panels, Type 2 SPDs serve as the primary defense against indirect lightning strikes and internal switching surges (8/20µs waveform), effectively clamping residual overvoltages to safe levels.

Type 3 SPD

Installed directly at the point of use, Type 3 SPDs provide highly sensitive, fine-tuned protection for delicate electronic equipment, computers, and instrumentation, neutralizing any minor transients that bypass upstream protection.

Signal & Data SPD

Specialized surge arresters engineered to protect sensitive, low-voltage communication networks. They ensure data integrity and prevent catastrophic hardware damage across Ethernet, RS-485, telecom, and critical instrumentation lines.
