Earthing Health Assessment

Overview

Aadithya's Earthing System Health Assessment ensures the healthiness of the complete earthing system. The earthing system must be inspected periodically to ensure health and effectiveness. Since the majority of earthing systems are buried underground and inaccessible, they suffer from the "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" syndrome.

Unseen components like Equipment Earth Conductors (Strip), Earth Grids/Mats which are buried or inaccessible tend to be ignored — though they are crucial for safety. As per CEA regulation 41(xv)b, the resistance of the earthing system shall be maintained as low as possible so that fault current flows sufficiently to trip the breaker ON TIME and isolate the faulty circuit.

Why It Matters

01Earthing deteriorates over time due to soil corrosion, thermal & electrical stress on joints, galvanic corrosion, and improper workmanship.
02Normally only Earth Electrode (Pit) resistance is measured periodically — yet the integrity of the Earth Conductor (Strip) between electrode and equipment is rarely checked.
03Timely operation of the breaker depends on the resistance of the full earth loop — not just the electrode.
04System modifications and deterioration can render original protection system calculations invalid.
05Aadithya's assessment methodology covers all critical parameters to ensure timely breaker operation and prevent accidents.
06Carried out on live systems without shutdown using sophisticated meters and proper PPE.

Value Proposition

Cost-effective hazard mitigation and risk management.
Pinpoints open or weak joints in buried earthing grids.
Identifies locations with unsafe touch and step potentials.
Ensures timely tripping of breakers to prevent short circuits, fire, and shocks.
Site survey and measurements by qualified, experienced engineers.
Detailed report with measured data, anomalies, recommendations, and site photographs.
Full compliance with latest Indian and International Standards.
Common Grounding System Issues
  • Majority of system faults are phase-to-ground.
  • Most of the earthing system is located below ground.
Problems from Improper Grounding
  • Failure of Electronic Cards & Equipment
  • Failure of ELV Assets
  • Maloperation of Ground Fault Protection
  • System Derating due to Power Quality Issues
  • Neutral Voltage Shift
  • Noise Interferences Causing Nuisance Tripping
  • Risk to Human Life
Resistance Measurement Limitation
  • Grounding audit is not merely resistance measurement.
  • Resistance alone does not give a holistic picture.
  • Open risers/grid disconnections may not impact overall resistance.
